Club news

Peter Courtenay
staged a great comeback from being 3 down after 9 holes to win the Captains Prize final against Mark Doolan on the 19th on Sunday. Peter hit his 2nd shot on the 19th to 3 feet and Mark understandably went for his birdie putt and ended up 3 putting to give Peter the victory.

In the morning Semi Finals Mark beat Tony Galloway and Peter beat Mike McLoughlin.

On Saturday the other finals just about got played in terrible conditions when I was on Squeegeeing duty! The closest game was Clive Plummer against Steve Brennan in the plate final. Clive was 2 down with 2 to play and hit a great 3rd shot from the dip on the 17th to about 6 feet to win that hole and then after hacking out of the trees on the 18th played up just short of the green on the 18th and got up and down to take the match up the 19th, where he again holed a good 4 footer for par, and a half, and then made a 4 nett 3 on the 2nd to win.

Results as follows:

Plate Final - Clive Plummer beat Steve Brennan on the 20th

Club Foursomes - Jim Mckenzie & Nigel Skilling beat Gary Furlong & Norman Carter

Ladies Spring Foursomes - Caroline Berry & Margaret Nelson beat Gill O'Neill & Anita Robinson
Gordon Edwards & Junior Ben Edwards beat Jacob McLoughlin, Arthur Bullivant

Seniors - Peter Darch beat Peter Chapman

The two other finals were played on Friday and Sunday, due to Margaret Nelson and Jacob McLoughlin getting into 2 finals.

The Nelsons beat the Martindales in the Matrimonial final and Steve Stewart & Louise Mcloughlin beat Mike & Jacob McLoughlin in the Junior/Adult Final.

N.B. - I will attach some more photos of the winners next week as there are only so many I can include due to the size of the mail.

The Ladies Autumn Meeting on Tuesday was won with another great score in Div 1 by Caroline Berry (72-0-72) followed by Amanda Dixon (88-11-77). Div 2 was won by the inform Gill Arthur (101-25-76) followed by Lady Captain Pam Darch (104-25-79) and Div 3 was won by Marion Jones (111-30-81) followed by Gill Martindale (119-33-86).

St. Andrews Meeting

We still have spots available for this weekend's St Andrews meeting and the sheet is also available for next week's September Medal off the yellow tees.

New arrivals

New arrivals in the shop this week include Ladies and Gents Waterproof suits from ProQuip and FootJoy with their new autumn ranges. Also new in are some Ashworth Tops with fleece lining which will keep you warm in the winter months.

Tour news

Away from Bromborough it was great to see Rory McIlroy back into the winners circle especially after he was 4 over par after 3 holes. It was nice to see the putter working at long last and let's hope his form continues to the Ryder Cup.
