Scoring was very consistent in the Ladies Stableford on Tuesday.
Dawn Skelland won Div 1 with 32 points beating Amanda Dixon on a card playoff. Sharon Evans with 32 points beat Jan Evans on a card playoff to win Div 2 and the in form Deidre Watson won Div 3 with 31 points with Shela Nugent 2nd with 27 points.
I have a couple of single spots left for this weekends Best 2 from 4 Stableford if any of you would like to play. We have now moved to two Shotgun starts at 8.30 am & 12.15 pm.
The Bookings for these these are done two weeks before at 12.30 for the am times and 3.30 pm for the afternoon times to save you getting up Sunday mornings.
At the same time this weekend I will be doing a raffle for the new Lady Captains car parking space on a Saturday. These are £1 each with the money going to the Lady Captains Charity Kids in need and Distress.
With a lot of Winter League games now going ahead tee times are at a premium on a Sunday morning so please if games are cancelled please delete your tee times asap as we have had some no shows recently.
The Titleist and Srixon promotions for Christmas with free printing have now started on there full range of balls which you can order on my website or I can do it for you.
With the colder weather now here we have good stocks of Winter mitts,Hats,Gloves as well as a great selection of Autumn/Winter clothing from FootJoy, Galvin Green, Under Armour & adidas.
Hopefully we will get a good finish in the Race to Dubai with the final three events. I am sure many of you will have played this weeks course in Belek but not many of you will have played 2nd shots from the same place as the players unless you played from the Red Tees!!!!
Next week moves to South Africa before moving onto Dubai for the final event. Then it all starts again in Australia where Paul Waring will next be playing before moving onto Hong Kong the following week.
BROMBOROUGH GOLF CLUB GREENS NEWSLETTER - WEEK COMMENCING 31st OCTOBER 2016.
There is never a dull moment!
I received a phone call from Jason this time last week to tell me that there were cows on the course again. This time they came from a different farm and caused some damage to the sixth green. Jason and the team have repaired the damage but you can still see some evidence of the bovine invasion on the seventh fairway. The cows were a minor irritation stopping us from important work on the course, but we have made good progress with the bunker reconstruction on the first and on the chipping green.
If you played last week, you will have noticed that we have cleared the area to the rear of the ninth tee. There has been some speculation about what will evolve from this clearance - from a huge bunker to a new pond. In fact, we shall fill the crater with reasonable quality spoil from around the course over the next few months and then seed the whole area.
We have installed a drain and we shall now be able to mow the area to keep it tidy.
Eventually, we shall extend the ninth tee backwards to increase the "white" teeing ground and add a slope at the rear, enabling us to mow without turning on the teeing ground.
So, what's happening this week?
For ease of reading I shall list the projects scheduled for this week:
1. Verti-drain identified areas of course including most fairways - external contractor 2. Cut and collect remaining areas of long rough - external contractor 3. Selective spraying for worms - mole damaged areas and tees 4. Verti-drain greens - 1st, 4th & 10th 5. Continue reconstruction work on bunkers 6. Star slit greens (we cannot deep slit yet as they are still recovering from the Graden work) 7. Leaf collection - this will take hours and will be on-going as often as we can fit it in. 8. Collect tree litter on third hole and any other 9. Remove path mat on third and fertilise this area 10. Spraying greens for disease 11. Top up drainage channels following settlement 12. Cut out course - grass is still growing!
The mole damage is a major concern. Our mole catcher has set his entire supply of traps on the course so we are hopeful of success. As we are verti-draining the course, we have removed the 150 & 100 yard markers to avoid damage from the vertidrain tines. They will be replaced once the work is finished. No moans this week.

Give a Garmin Golf’s a hard enough game at the best of times, but knowing how far to hit the ball makes it that much easier. Whether you want the yardage to the front, middle or back, or you wish to know the distance to the corner of the dogleg from the tee, Garmin’s Approach S2 GPS watch will give you all of this and more.
