The Masters

Masters competition

Saturday was unfortunately another washout however although the course was still very wet in places the Masters Competition on Sunday went ahead and was very successful with the clubhouse busy all night. Paul Adams won with 40 pts followed by the Captain Brian Dingwall with 38 pts and karl Adams 3rd with 37 pts. There were 4 Twos worth £10.25 each.

Back to the real Masters!!!Rory had a very disappointing Sunday after getting out of jail on the 1st with a par as soon as he missed his short eagle putt on the 2nd his putting deserted him. I thought Patrick Reed deserved his win in the end as after a bogey he always seemed to make a birdie soon after and his putting was excellent as he held off Rickie Fowler & Jordan Spieth.

Thanks to all of you who entered the Masters sweepstake which proved very successful and we will do it again for the U S Open coming up in June. I have listed all the winners and there players below.

Course news

Course update

As I am sure most of you are aware to protect the course we have cancelled many of our Visiting groups and some Ladies matches that were being played in March & April. We have rescheduled some of these over the coming months meaning some days are very busy so I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Greenstaff have tried to cut some of the course out this week but the rough has proved impossible to cut. By the weekend we hope to be able to cut some more fairways weather permitting to get some more definition on the course.

Hopefully the weather next week looks better so we will be able to cut more of the course but I fear some areas of the rough we are weeks away from being able to cut.

Data protection

You have nothing to fear

Recently, you may have seen a few requests in our weekly emails asking you to create your golfing profile or confirm your email address for GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) purposes.

As you might be aware, GDPR is new legislation coming into effect at the end of May, so we are taking the opportunity now to update your details. Not only does this give us the chance to confirm that we have your correct information, but it also provides us with the ability to personalise your weekly emails to suit your golfing preferences. If you have not yet updated your details, please do so now. It will take you less than a minute.

No penalty

Golf can be a frustrating game at the best of times, but incurring a penalty stroke when you’ve accidentally done something wrong seems very unfair, especially when that one stroke could be the difference between getting a handicap cut or not.

Current Rules
Under the current Rules of Golf, if you accidentally nudge your ball while addressing it you incur a one-stroke penalty and must replace it (18-2). The only exception relates to if it is accidentally moved in the process of marking it. In this case, it must be replaced and there is no penalty (20-1).

New Rules from 2019
The new proposed rule (13.1c) states there will no longer be a penalty for accidentally causing your ball to move on the green and you must replace it on its original spot.
