Competition news

At long last

I’m sure it was a culture shock to all last Saturday morning venturing back to the white tees. Although the qualifying score of 80 was slightly higher than normal, the winners with a great score of 91-19.5-71.5 were Ronnie Turner & Ian Davies.

Second with 88-13.5-74.5 were John Hall & Steve Pilgrim, with John Sadler & Tony Galloway 3rd with 78-3-75. There were 6 Twos worth £20.30 per pair £10.15 each.

Just a quick reminder please remember to pay your competition entry fees by 1.00pm on the Wednesday preceding the competition or names will be deleted from the time sheet.

Ladies news

The Ladies once again endured a very wet Tuesday in there Hospice Trophy which was won by Dawn Skelland & Colly Faulkner with 38 points, on a card playoff from Elaine Frances & Jan Evans.

Demo day success

Thanks to all of you who attended the TaylorMade Demo Day on Wednesday which was once again a huge success.

From Monday 30th April I will have the PING Range of clubs for you all to try in the shop for a couple of weeks so please pop in and feel free to try any of the clubs we have.

Tour news

Paul Waring

Paul Waring had his best finish of the season last week in Morocco where he finished 9th to move him into the top 100 in the Race to Dubai rankings. He now has some time off before the big money tournaments start with the PGA Championship at Wentworth.

This week we had Sarah Stirk who presents the golf on Sky Sports playing on Tuesday in the RSM Company day one of Paul’s sponsors on Tuesday who was very complimentary about the course despite the awful weather.

Talking of the course we will be Hollowtining and dressing the greens next week and the Greenstaff will have priority while they are doing this so they can get the job done as quickly as possible.

Urethane cover? So what...

A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common…

Try Urethane with the Z-Star and Z-Star XV
Like all tour-level golf balls, the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV boast a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials.

Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots.

However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative.

As you can see on these 50-yard pitch shots, the extra spin from the Urethane cover ball on the right helps it to stop much quicker than the Ionomer cover ball on the left, which rolls out on landing.
