Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. In this week's email, we talk about how to generate power without swinging faster, we review last weekend's GolfSixes where England and European Women impressed, and we take a look at the luckiest ever shots on the European Tour.

Competition news

Recent competitions

Paul Davies won Div 1 in the May Stableford on Saturday with a great score of 39 points followed by Ryan Clark with 37 points who beat Les Flanagan on a card playoff. Div 2 was also won with 39 points by our Handicap Chairman Roger Hazlewood followed by Ian Hailwood with 38 points who beat Mike Sarath & Dave Jones on a card playoff. There were 27 Twos worth £6.10 each.

The first WREY Competition last Thursday off the Red/Yellow tees was won by John McCann 42pts followed by Ian Campbell with 38pts & Amanda Dixon with 37 points. Richard Fitzgerald won the White tee competition with 33pts beating Shaun Booth on a card playoff.

Those of you who have entered the first PPS next week please remember you have to pay by Monday at 1.00pm

The Lady Vets Silver Salver on Tuesday was won by Jan Mcgowan with 81-8-73 followed by The Lady Captain Sheila Nugent 108-34-74 who beat Dawn Skelland 90-16-74 on a card playoff.

Lost battery

By chance if anyone has picked up a Motocaddy S1 Lithium Battery which was left outside the locker room on Saturday could they please return it to the Proshop.

Course update

Summer conditions are now in force so please remember for Saturday’s Spring Meeting. The course has nearly all been cut out this week. There is still the odd area that a machine still cant drive over but the Greenstaff are struggling to keep up with it as the grass seems to be growing so quickly. The greens should speed up from Saturday as the height of cut will be lowered for this weekend after last weeks Hollowtining.

Ireland triumph as others impress

Whilst many of you spent the Bank Holiday weekend basking in glorious sunshine – and we don’t blame you – 16 pairs battled it out in the second edition of GolfSixes. Split into four round-robin groups to begin with, only the top two pairs from each could proceed to the quarter-final stage, which saw both all-female teams (England Women and European Women) make it through to the final eight. Sadly, both female teams failed to advance to the semi-finals, with England Women losing out to eventual winners Ireland, represented by Gavin Moynihan (who has failed to make a single cut so far this season) and Paul Dunne.

Ahead of golf’s unofficial fifth major taking place at TPC Sawgrass this weekend, Australia’s Jason Day has returned to world’s top 10 after a superb display at the Wells Fargo Championship. Taking place at Quail Hollow – the scene of last year’s PGA Championship – Day shot a gritty 69 on Sunday to finish two clear of his nearest challenger, admitting afterwards that he ‘had no idea where the ball was going, especially off the tee.’ For those of you wondering, yes Tiger Woods did play but he finished in a lowly tied 55th.

Paul is back in action

Paul Waring is back in action this week in Sicily before a week off and then the BMW Championship down at Wentworth. This week over in the States the top ranking European players will be battling it out over at Sawgrass in the Players Championship, which I am looking forward to watching having been lucky enough to play there a few times, but not hitting my 2nd shots from where they are.

Trust = Power
