Competition news

Men's Invitation

There was great scoring in the Men’s Invitation with Dave Tinsley and his son Ian with 47 points followed by Ryan Clark and Dave Taker with 45 points. Neil Dermott and Steve Clemence came in 3rd with 44 points, who beat Dave Jones and John Done and Tony Fennell and G Bond on a card playoff.

Anyone who wasn’t at the presentation and had a 2 I have your golf balls for collection in the shop.

For those of you teeing off early on Saturday please remember the August Medal is off the yellow tees

The 9 hole competition on Sunday was won by Marion Jones with 21 points followed by Husband Peter with 19 points who beat Ray Bobby on a card playoff.

Tour news

Nordea Masters

Paul Waring is playing this week in Sweden as the European tour resumes hoping for an upturn in form to move him up the Race To Dubai rankings.

It was also very disappointing that last week’s US PGA Championship wasn’t shown on TV as the coverage on Eleven Sports was very amateurish compared to what we are used to on Sky Sports. It was however good to see Tiger back on good form apart from his Driving shooting 3 under on the front nine without hitting a fairway.

Here, there and everywhere

We are faced with a whole range of scenarios out on the course, some of which we practice regularly and others that we don’t. When you consider the different types of shots you hit around the greens, it really does highlight how versatile your wedges need to be.

Versatility is key
We ask a lot from our wedges, from opening up the face to hit high lob/flop shots to moving the ball back in our stance to play low flying pitches and everything in between. It’s therefore obvious that you should be playing something you’re comfortable with from any spot around the greens.
