Coming up...
The competition on Saturday 17th will be over 15 Holes as we have a large entry and with the daylight hours receding not everyone will manage 18 holes. It will more than likely, to avoid confusion be the first 15 holes so those who want to play the last 3 can do so. The booking for the Shotgun start on the 1st December which is a 4 Ball Better Ball will be after 12.30pm for the 8.30am start and after 3.30pm for the 12.15pm start. At present we are missing out 9,10 &11 but this may change depending on weather conditions and any work being carried out on the course.
Hole in one
Congratulations to Colin Arnold who had his first hole in one on the 4th with an 8 iron and later on that morning Tony Egan had a hole in one on the 16th!

Course update
I have extracted the following piece from the Bromborough Golf Club Facebook page as I was asked a number of times last weekend what was happening on the 4th and 6th holes.
The course team have a very long list of jobs to complete, so the best way to stay up to date with the day to day improvements and operations is on Facebook. We won’t be clogging up members’ email inboxes every time we do a minor job so please visit the Bromborough golf club Facebook page and like it, that will alert you every time something new is posted.
Darren has organised a deal with the owner of a plant hire company (who is also his friend) whereby we get FREE use of the JCB (saving the club a cost of £500 per day) and in return the contractor gives us his excess topsoil, which we can utilise to improve various parts of the course. However, it means we only get the free JCB when it’s not in use by the contractor; therefore we have to take it at extremely short notice as you will have seen last weekend on the course.
4th pond - We have removed approximately 160 tonnes of dead rank vegetation, we have got spoil placed ready to reshape the banks so it can be mown tidy next year. We are reintroducing a bund bank to separate the two ponds that had been incorrectly taken out, this will also be a new path to the ladies 5th tee from the 4th green.
The reason for putting the bund back is, they were originally separate ponds, one is higher than the other and when they became a single pond, one side is very shallow, so the bund will recreate two decent ponds enhancing the hole as can be seen in the photos taken today.
|
Concurrently, the volunteers have been clearing out debris from the pond and fitting a new sluice gate by the ditch on the right hand side of the right pond (viewing from the 5th tee) to prevent any pond flooding.
6th Hole - This is to grade out the steep scruffy slopes so they can be mown as semi rough, tidying up the hole and reducing slow play by no more lost balls, this will also be an overflow for the ponds, flooding in the base of this pit instead of by the 5th bunker.
Peter Jones and volunteers are all happy with the work completed, as should the entire membership be grateful for the hard work by all to further improve BGC.

A story of what could have been... It was all-change at the top of the world rankings yet again, as Justin Rose reclaimed the number one spot after winning the Turkish Airlines Open. The Englishman beat China’s Li Haotong in a playoff after both players finished on 17-under-par.
For Li, it was certainly a story of what could have been after a series of near-misses down the final stretch. To compound his misery further, Li had a makeable putt on the first playoff hole to claim victory, only to race his first attempt a few feet past before failing to hole the one coming back. A three-putt for Li and a second consecutive Turkish Airlines Open victory for Rose, securing his place back at the summit of the world rankings. |
