I hope you all enjoyed the Ryder Cup which ended up being a rather comfortable win but at one stage early Sunday afternoon it was looking very interesting. The standard of golf seemed to improve as the week went on with some great play from Justin Rose & Henrik Stenson over the week.
Our Ryder Cup event went very well here with the match being tied 7 matches each and thanks goes to all of those who organised the event especially the injured Ben Keegan for all his hard work. Ben couldn't play with me so I inherited Brian Daly as a last minute replacement who probably had more pints on Saturday night than shots he was getting from Paul Waring and myself the next day. Things were pretty close at the turn with us being 1 down but then Paul made a 2 at the 10th and 13th after driving to 4 feet and Alex made a 4 net 3 at 11 in the middle so we ended up losing 4&3.
Paul has followed it up this week with a hole in one on a par 4 at Kingsbarns in his practice round lets hope he continues his good form this week when the tournament starts.
The End of Season Stableford last weekend was won by Terry Pace in Div 1 with 41 pts followed by Andy Clarke with 39pts 7 Campbell Burgess 3rd with 38pts. The best score of the day was Div 2 with Barry Gainer winning with 42 pts followed by Chris Jones with 41pts & Roger Hazlewood 3rd with 39pts.
The Ladies Stableford Tuesday was won by Collie Faulkner with 35pts followed by Caroline Berry with 34pts. Div 2 was won again by the in form Jan Evans with 35pts followed by Jackie Johnston with 33pts and Div 3 was won by Deidre Watson with 33pts followed by the Lady Captain with 32 pts.
This week the greens were hollowcored with 8mm tines in line with our STRI recommendations which although having a slight adverse effect in the short term will benefit us in the long term as has been seen by the improvement in surfaces and thatch content underneath this year.
