Club news

Course update

The course has been cut out this week and looks a lot tidier. Most of the green stakes have now been taken in but please keep your trolleys outside those that remain. On the 1st hole, please take all trolleys/Buggies to the right of the green and if you notice the rope on the left has snapped or is lying on the ground please repair it or let me know and I will go up and do it. We are trying to protect all the new turf round the greenside bunker and the turf for the new sprinklers that have been put in.

I have also had several people in about the practice ground and members just stood in the middle hitting balls. Please will you practice from the 6th green end rather than both ends? It also means that someone who maybe hitting 9 irons when you arrive can move onto longer shots rather than if we have players at both ends this is not possible.

Competition news

Results

Two great scores won both divisions on Saturday Daniel McNicholas Div 1 with 78-11-67 and Tony Edge Div 2 with 92-25-67.

Runner up in Div 1 was Rob Lowles 78-8-70 followed by Stephen Richards 77-5-72 who Paul Adams, John Boyd, Jamie Davies & Les Flanagan on a card playoff.

Runner up in Div 2 was Karl Adams 89-20-69 and 3rd Roy Joynson 88-18-70 who beat Paul Kenny & John McCann on a card playoff.

There were 27 Twos worth £5.90 each.

The 1st WR&Y of the season was played on Sunday with a great score of 41 points by Emma Chapman beating Dave Tinsley on a card playoff. Doug Reay was 3rd with 40 points and Julie Money 4th with 39 points. There were 3 Twos worth £9.30 each.

The Ladies Stableford on Tuesday was won by the inform Jan Evans with 37 points on a card playoff from Linda Simpson followed by Karen Munro with 36 points.

Many of you have done already but please remember to put money on your competition purse account through the website of we can do it for you in the shop. If this isn’t done by Friday 19th April you will not be able to book for the competition on Saturday 4th May. If you are making a booking for 3 players all 3 players must have money in their accounts.

Tee times are still available for this weekend’s Masters Competition which may be booked online. If you would like to join another booking please call me and I will add your name.

Club Fitting

From Friday I will have all the latest PING G410 Drivers Fairways Hybrids in the shop for you to try at your leisure and Alex will be on the practice ground on Wednesday 17th April in the afternoon between 1.30pm & 4.00pm offering free fittings for any of you who may be interested.

Please call us or pop in the shop to book and If these times don’t suit, please phone us or call in the shop to see if we can arrange another suitable time. We will also have the new Callaway Epic Flash available for you to try with a new fitting app which recommends the shaft after you have hit a few drives.

There are a couple of slots left for the TaylorMade Demo day on Tuesday 30th April so please let us know if you would like to book in.

Running on empty?

The Masters

Finally I’m sure you are all looking forward to the Masters this weekend. On Saturday we will be doing a draw in the shop at £5 per square like last year with all the players who make the cut.

You can have as many goes as you want and we will draw the players when all the squares are taken or after the last players in the competition have teed off. If you would like a go and are not playing on Saturday please call us and we will enter you.

Don't neglect your #3

A driver is a powerful beast, sometimes too powerful if a hole has a hazard within range. In this scenario, you have a plethero of options to choose from, but there is one that is often overlooked.

Picture the scene

You're stood on a par-4 tee box and there’s a water hazard 240 yards away.

What do you do?

Many of you will reach for your longest iron on auto-pilot, however a custom-fitted fairway wood might just be the perfect solution; getting you further down the hole and closer to the green.

Why is this often overlooked?

More to it than you think...

Long gone are the days of wearing uncomfortable metal spikes on a flat leather outsole - although there is something weirdly special about those classic golf shoes. Anyway, technology has advanced for the better in recent years with a huge focus on improving traction and stability.

Spikeless shoes still have a false perception attached to them that they're only suitable for summer golf, which may have been the case several years ago but times have changed.
