Competition news

April Stableford

The April Stableford on Saturday produced some good scores even though it was the 1st White tee competition of the year.

Div 1 was won by Dave Henry with 39 points followed by John Sadler with 38 points with Lee Moores 3rd with 38 points beating Stuart Havard & Rob Lowles on a card playoff.

Div 2 was won by Terry Devonald with 39 points who beat Chris Jones on a card playoff. Karl Adams was 3rd on 38 points beating Brian Dingwall on a card playoff. There were 29 twos worth £6.10 each.

Ladies Stableford

This week’s Ladies Stableford was won by Dawn Skelland 32 points on a card playoff in Div 1 from Isabel May And Elaine Murray.

Div 2 was won by Shan Ashcroft with 37 points followed by Jackie Johnston with 36 points and Div 3 was won By Julie Money with 37 points followed by Deidre Watson with 34 points.

WR&Y

The Sunday WR&Y was won by Julie Money with 39 points followed by Caroline Berry with 38 points and Dave Allen 3rd with 36 points.

Tour news

Out of the fire and into the Pan...

C.T Pan secured a popular victory at the RBC Heritage over the weekend, propelling himself from outside the world’s top 100 into the top 55 in a matter of four days.

It was only last week that Pan was watching Tiger Woods sweep to victory at The Masters on TV whilst dreaming of competing himself, and now that dream is a reality after a tense one-shot victory at the stunning Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina.

Some of that tension was released thanks to a Sunday back-nine blow-up from Masters runner-up and overnight leader Dustin Johnson. The American played holes 11 to 15 in seven-over-par, ending any chance of victory and further cementing himself as the world number one.

Pan sank a nine-foot birdie on the 16th to take the outright lead and held his nerve to claim his maiden PGA Tour title by one shot from Matt Kuchar.

Another way to gain distance

On the face of it, the mechanics of golf are really quite simple: the further you hit the ball, the easier it will be to get the white thing into the hole in the fewest shots.
