Greetings from Geoff Berry
Bromborough Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Things have been pretty quiet over the past week with no competition last weekend and the Ladies competition cancelled on Tuesday with Hurricane Gonzalo going through. Winter conditions now being in force I have put a piece in from the Handicap Committee below.

We still have a few single spots and one spot for 2 players for the 9.6.3 competition on Saturday so if you would like to play please pop in or give us a call.

I have some great offers on shoes at present with some Gents FootJoy Contours reduced from £99 to £69.99 and some Ladies Lo Pro reduced from £79.99 to £54.99 whilst stocks last. We are now taking orders for Titleist Balls for Christmas with free printing on which has proved very popular over the last couple of years.

This week I have been at Mere to see the new Titleist & FootJoy ranges for next year which will hopefully sell well when they come in.

Finally with the hour going back this weekend remember the member's hour is now 12.00/1.00pm weekdays.

WINTER PLAY
Pace of play

As we move into winter, the shortened course should facilitate quicker rounds, but we have already witnessed slower rounds than in the Summer. Out of courtesy, all members should ensure they play without delay and if falling behind, or searching for a ball, should invite the group behind to play through.

In particular, groups starting before 9.30am, whether playing competitions, Winter League or friendly games, should note that any delay they cause will knock on throughout the day, meaning that some games may not finish due to failing light.

To promote an increase in pace of play we are introducing for the Winter, a Local Rule to allow players by general consent to play "Ready Golf" i.e. out of turn. Also in conjunction with this players may take their first put on the putting green with the pin left in the hole. There will be no penalty for the ball striking the pin.

This will apply to all men's golf until the first Yellow Tee Handicap Qualifier in March 2014. (The only exception being players recording a supplementary score for handicapping purposes)

Please improve your pace and ensure that you do not have the group behind constantly waiting to play.

Drop zones

Where drop zones are available there is an option of taking the nearest point of relief at the player's discretion. Where there is more than one drop zone, then the reference point is the one which is no nearer the hole.

Local rules

Roped off areas

The stakes and rope on the course are classed as immovable obstructions.

Interference is deemed to occur when

(a) the ball lies through the green, in front of and so close to the obstruction that it interferes with the player's stance or the area of his intended swing, or

(b) the ball lies within 5 yards of the obstruction so that any part of the obstruction intervenes directly between the player's ball and the hole and is on his line of play.

Relief

A player may obtain relief from such defined interference by determining the point of relief within 5 yards of the nearest stake or rope that is not nearer the hole and is not in a hazard or on a putting green.

The player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of the point so determined

The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this local rule.

Penalty for Breach of Rule

Including temporary removal of stakes and rope

Stroke Play - 2 Strokes

Match Play - Loss of Hole
(Player only in Better Ball Match - not the Side)

Srixon AD333 golf balls

Some of you may be sceptical about using a yellow ball but with the fading light at this time of year causing us problems, they're certainly worth a try - and Srixon's AD333 in Tour Yellow offers superb visual performance...

PING G30 irons

They've been in the shop a while now and look just as appealing as when they first arrived. But, are they for you? Watch the video and speak to us if you're in the market for new bats. If not the G30, we can talk you through other sets in PING's range and help you with a fitting...
