With the Women’s British Open taking place at Woburn this week, we thought now is the best time to look at why you should be getting more iron in your diet, especially with accuracy playing such a pivotal role for the players this week. We also have a fantastic Video of the Week as two of England's best ever bowlers go head-to-head in the 14 Club Challenge.

Competition news

Results

The early starters got the best of the weather on Saturday with the rain setting in from mid-morning. James Murphy shot a great score of 71-4-67 to win Div 1 and the President putter closely followed by Scott Bligdon 75-6-69 with James Gillespie 3rd 77-7-70.

Div 2 was won by Matty Earp 84-14-70 on a card playoff from playing partner Peter Roberts 86-16-70 with Peter Dodd 3rd with 86-15-71.

There were 18 Twos worth £8.90 each.

Scoring was tough on Tuesday for the Ladies competition with the course playing longer after the recent rain fall. Sharon Evans won Div 1 with 96-20-76 followed by Izzy May 86-9-77 and Amanda Dixon 88-11-77. Div 2 was won by Monica Carroll 103-27-76 followed by Gill Arthur 101-22-79 and Div 3 was won by Sue Fowler 107-29-78 followed by Sue James 111-29-82.

Eric Fischer Memorial Trophy

The Eric Fischer Memorial Trophy has been won by Bromborough Golf Club at Woolton Golf Club.. The trophy is competed for by 3 teams of 2 (one adult and one junior) as a Better Ball Stableford with the best 2 teams scores to count.

The teams comprised of the Captain Hugh Jones and the Junior Captain Padraig Ibrahim, John and Ben Edwards and Phil and Daniel Brown. The winning score was 94 points. John and Ben scored a magnificent 49 points and Phil and Dan 45 points.

The Captain and Padraig shot a very creditable 43 points but their score did not count.

Congratulations to them all.

Home hopes – who are you backing?

The wet conditions faced at the Evian Championship last week could well be the perfect preparation for the world's best as they head to Woburn for the Women's British Open, which begins on Thursday.

Last year saw home-grown hero Georgia Hall fire a sublime final round five-under-par to overhaul Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum and claim her first Major championship. But will there be a repeat this year to make it back-to-back British women on the top step in their home Major?

Hall will no doubt be one of the favorites and along with the likes of Charley Hull, Bronte Law and Meghan Maclaren (to name but a few) who are all flying the flag for the British Isles, so there is plenty of reason to get excited ahead of the fifth and final women’s Major of the year.
