Greetings from Geoff Berry
Bromborough Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

The Texas Scramble on Saturday was won by Steve Lewis,Colin Lewis,Mike Lewis & Keith Francis with a great score of 46.6 followed by Alex Peers , Simon Taylor, Brian Daly & Steve Brown with 47.9 and in 3rd place was Loz Creed, Steve Pilgrim , Ryan Clarke & John Hall with 48.4.

There were 5 twos which worked out at £6.00 per player.

We still have spots available for the Team Stableford on Saturday 31st January which will be the last of the shotgun starts we will then revert back to the normal timesheet.

Paul Waring had a disappointing start to his 2015 year missing the cut in Abu Dhabi due to poor driving in his 2nd round. His Driver may have got its P45!!! Let's hope he does better in Doha this week.

With new clothing arriving soon we have some great bargains on the sale rail in the shop at present so pop in and take a look.

Below I have put a piece in from Rod and please remember the new course route from Wednesday 21st January. 1st then 16th then 2nd round to 15th then 17th & 18th. Trolleys will not be allowed beyond the bunkers on the 1st so please walk the clubhouse side of the 17th tee towards the 16th tee. This is being done to protect the area left of the 1st green and the area around the 2nd tee which is very worn. Please don't take your trolleys up to the 2nd tee please leave short and left of the 16th green.

As I'm typing this the course is partly open on Temporary greens due to the frost and snow this week so please check in the shop what's open.

A belated happy New Year to you all.

The New Year has been very cold, but thankfully, we completed the turfing work before Christmas and have now moved on to tree clearance at the back of the sixth green. The plan is to complete the thinning of the pines and the birches that was started last year. We shall then move to the boggy area between the third tee and the fourteenth tee. We shall clear the trees in the bog to give a line of sight from the fourteenth tee to the chipping green adjacent to the third tee.

I now want to focus on a very important development for Bromborough. I am currently developing a new strategy for the course. I have been in this job for over four years and I am conscious that we need to review what we have achieved and what the next five years holds for us.

The new strategy examines every aspect of the course and associated activities.

We held a greens meeting last week with our greens staff where I explained what was needed from them over the coming five years and beyond.

In a future "Newsletter", I shall run through the major issues arising from the strategic review, but for now, I should like to concentrate of the first phase of the strategy, which affects what I call the "Greens Complex".

The "Greens Complex" is an area including the green, fringes, aprons, surrounds and an area approximately 40 metres from the middle of each green.

My desire is to create an immaculate sward in the whole of this complex and I have tasked the greens staff to achieve this outcome.

I shall give further details as we move forward, but for the time being it is sufficient to say that this is where we need your help!

I need to protect the "Greens Complex" through the winter months and this is why we have re-routed the course.

We shall play the course for the remainder of the winter in the following order - 1st, 16th, 2nd to 15th then 17th and 18th. This will protect the area to left and rear of the first green and to the left side of the second tee.

We shall review all greens for next year and decide which greens need staking to protect them.

I have to thank all members for observing the staked and white lined barriers. I am pleased that we have not needed to do, as much roping this year and I think it has worked well for us all.

So, I hope you will help us to achieve our goal by continuing to keep all trolleys and buggies outside the white lined areas.

I hope you have a fantastic week golfing and enjoy reading the rest of the articles. Geoff
