Following on from the women's first Major of the year last weekend, this week it's the men's turn as they tee it up at Augusta National for the second Masters Tournament in a matter of months. Competition round-up

The scoring was excellent in the first competition back considering everyone had hardly played for 3 months.

Paul Barlow had the best score of the weekend with 43 points to win Div 2 followed by Oliver Lloyd with 39 points and Tom Williams with 38 points.

Div 1 was won by Steve Murray with 40 points followed by Mathew Warren with 39 points who beat John Dermott on a card playoff.

There were 25 Twos worth £9.25 each.

Thanks to all regards pace of play with nearly every group round in 4 hours or less. This weekend is Fourballs which will obviously be a bit slower so please pick up if you can't score.

For those of you wondering why you ended up with 1 point less than on your card, this is because of the new handicap allowances for competitions which for Stableford is 95%.

The Ladies Stableford on Tuesday was won by Morag Holland with 43 points on a card playoff from Barbara Walsh followed by Lynn Campbell with 42 points.

PING G425 clubs now available to try in the shop!

All the new PING G425 range of demo clubs arrive tomorrow for you to try and will be in the shop until Monday 19th April.

We can also fit any of these with our new GC Quad launch monitor. Please feel free to ask if you would like to book a fitting.

Finally, most of you will probably have forgotten but Tier 4 over Christmas and lockdown meant that the Christmas raffle never took place, so from Monday it will be open at £5 square for 7 days.

Augusta's in full bloom

Back in November, we watched a totally unique Masters unfold. Dustin Johnson broke the tournament record, DeChambeau called Augusta a ‘par-67’ opening with 70-74 and Rory went from 3-over on Thursday to 11-under on Sunday. Madness! So… More of the same?

Absolutely not! Augusta National will have its bite back, for one thing. The return to the usual April date feels like we’re welcoming back an old friend in the form of a brutal golf course. It’s trickier than ever to call a winner, but why not have a go anyway?

Mind the gap

If we asked you what club you hit 150 yards, you’d likely have an easy answer. However, when it comes to 100 yards and in, it all gets a little messy and unclear. The funny thing is, this is the part of the game where our scores are made and lost, so maybe we all need to focus a bit more time on getting it right?

Do you have any yardage gaps in your set?

To start with, make sure your wedges are evenly gapped.

What is gapping?
It’s the fun process where we make sure each club in your bag goes a specific distance and that there are even gaps between one club and the next. This is particularly helpful when it comes to your wedge system!

So, rather than having to try and manipulate your swing-length to hit the ball a certain yardage, let’s look at things a different way.

Instead, make a note of the distances you most commonly face on the golf course but don't have a club that matches up. Then, we can help find you a club that goes that distance. If this is something you'd be interested in, send us a message.
