Brian Newman & Dave Sheppard triumphed in a very tense finale to the 2014-15 Winter League. Ted Cormack and Paul Barlow had played very well up to Hole 15 in very testing conditions with constant rain throughout the morning, partially flooding some of the greens, being 3 up on the 16th tee. Brian and Dave went 3, 3, and 4 to level the match and force a sudden death play-off. They had the momentum going up the 19th and a birdie 3 by Dave was sufficient to close out the game. Congratulations to Brian and Dave on winning the Ken Holmes Claret Jug. Ted and Paul were very unfortunate runners-up having set the pace all morning, only being caught when the weather improved!

With the warmer weather last weekend I ventured out for a few holes after locking up and thought the course was looking good having had some of the fairways cut to give some definition at this time of year. There were however still plenty of pitch marks on the greens and I have had a few members in this week saying the same thing. I also thought the 14th looked a lot better having had the ditch cleared out in front of the tee. Finally could I just ask if you book a tee time and decide not to play will you please cancel it or let us know in the shop. Wednesday morning this week there were 4 times booked which no one turned up for.

Finally a quick piece from the Captain on how his chosen charity is going this year. After the successful Charity Night a week last Saturday we have now raised almost £3000 for The Stroke Association ..... and we haven't quite finished. As some of you may already know one of our members, Terry Pace, is running the Liverpool Half Marathon at the end of March 2015. He is doing it to benefit two charities. The first is my chosen charity, The Stroke Association and the second is Cancer Research, because four of his playing partners here at Bromborough, Tony Stewart, Dave Everitt, Ray Evans and Jeff Clayton, have lost their battle with it.
