The final Winter Competition last weekend was won by Steve Anderson, Peter Maddaford , Steve Roberts & Brian Griffiths with 80 points closely followed by Albert Davies, Phil Yarranton, Chris Harris & Mark Frain with 79 points who beat Dale Heggarty , George Heggarty , Ken Tait & Bob Dutton on a card play off.
The Ladies Team Stableford on Tuesday was won not surprisingly by Sharon Evans , Jan Evans & Jan Randles with 87 points with Jan Mcgowan , Maureen Lally & Jackie Johnston coming 2nd with 82 points.
The Winter League final was played Sunday with the finalist have much lower handicaps than in previous years showing that giving shots a plenty can be overcome with good play. Gary Crowder and Steve Thompson who normally hibernate all winter did just that and sustained their good play in the earlier rounds by having a better ball 10 pars and 3 birdies to win the Ken Holmes Claret Jug, dovetailing well in very windy conditions. There was little opportunity for finalists Brian Newman and Dave Sheppard to get a look in. Congratulations to Gary and Steve.
Out on the course we have now bought the ropes in apart from the 4th & 6th holes which are in very poor condition over the back of the greens so please keep off these if you can. We will also be keeping the flags on these holes red or yellow to try and avoid balls going into the GUR areas. These have now been vertidrained as they have dried out sufficiently and will be dressed and seeded. Hopefully we will now get some warmer weather so the grass starts growing as there are a lot of areas that are scruffy at present.
Next week the Greenstaff will be micro hollow tining and dressing the greens so you may experience the odd temporary green while this work is being carried out.
New arrivals in the shop this week are Galvin Green shirts , Insula Wind Tops Ladies Shirts and Trousers and New Odyssey putters.
