Congratulations this week go to young Ben Edwards pictured who got his first hole in one this week on the 4th hole on Sunday.
The second Men's Invitation was held on Sunday and once again we had a really good turnout with a full starting sheet. Another successful invitation saw ex-member Jenner Reeves and partner Iain Hughes win with a great score 45 points. In second place behind them was the team of Jim Hughes and his guest Dave Burstock with another great score of 43 points. This was just enough to see off Alex Peers and Roger Fielding who also returned 43 points only to be beaten on a card play-off. Thanks to everyone who played and we hope to see everyone again for the next Invitation in 2017.
The juniors won the Junior Scratch Tournament held at Eastham on Sunday. The team made up of Rob Cull, James Murphy and Oliver Dillon won by six shots over Heswall. Congratulations to the team on a great win! Pictured is Captain Rob Cull with the Junior Scratch Trophy.
The last PPS of the season was just as well contested as they have been all season. Andy Clark took the win with 41 points over Mark Kimpton in second with 40 points closely followed by Rob Passingham with 39 points. Another good turn out for the last PPS so thanks to all that played.
Greens Update
Alistair Beggs, STRI Agronomist visited today to run the half-yearly checks on the greens. The results are very pleasing and I shall publish his report on the website as soon as we receive it.
We have solid tined and top-dressed the greens this week and I am pleased that the greens team now have the process down to a fine art and the rain arrived right on cue to wash in the residual top-dressing.
This brings me to the Graden work planned for the end of September. As mentioned previously, we have delayed this work from this week to the the end of September to avoid the last of the summer competitions and the Captain's Finals day.
The Graden involves slitting the greens and injecting sand into the slits. The slits in the greens will be evident for several weeks but they will be "truer" than they look. This work is essential for the improvement of our greens. It will continue to reduce organic matter in our greens and encourage the population of bent grass.
If we achieve the expected improvement, we shall not need to tine and top-dress throughout next summer. I am sure you will all be pleased if we can achieve that! Therefore, in summary, we have delayed the more invasive Graden treatment until the end of the season. This leaves us with better surfaces during the major competition period, but recovery from the Graden will take longer. I think this is a good compromise. As usual, this work is subject to the vagaries of our weather! I shall keep you up to date with progress in the forthcoming weeks.
I hope you have a fantastic week golfing and enjoy reading the rest of the articles. Geoff

It's really positive that we're getting more of you to think harder about the ball you play; not just that, understanding the differences between models. A closer look at Srixon's Z-STAR shows it performs best with driver swing speeds betweeen 90 and 105mph. Why? Watch our video...
Many of you will have seen how effective the R15 was for Jason Day at Whistling Straits. Despite being long, no doubt the Australian has his big stick dialled in for his game. For amateur golfers this is even more important. Speak to us about custom fitting and help with your adjustability options.
